Sushant and the journey of the middle class

Sushant’s family was never in the limelight on purpose. While he was alive, the family deliberately stayed away from media. Other than occasional conversations about him with friends, very few actually knew that we were his kin. This setup was by design. It kept the relationship clean and honest. We didn’t use the social currency of his association and he enjoyed spending time with us without any burden.

After his unfortunate demise, the family has to step out and defend his legacy and fight for justice. This exposes the family to public, media and scrutiny. We are very thankful for all the support we have received. Family members have started off from middle class and while Sushant reached new heights of stardom and fame, his other family members also progressed to upper middle class and higher economic ladders, on their own merit.

And this is what resonates with the public. Sushant and his family represent the aspirations of India. Sushant and his family represent self-reliance, hard work, economic progression; the great Indian dream.

What happens when the middle class dreams are shattered or when dreams are achieved and then everything is taken away. It shatters the faith of millions of middle-class families. This is why India is hurting so much because it almost feels like the systems in place could not protect this boy from middle class who had made a respectable mark for himself. People are wondering if such a successful person cannot be protected and served justice, will a common man ever be?

I hope that Sushant is served justice, not just for his and his family’s sake but for the sake of over billion Indians, who are dreaming together a new, more self-reliant India, because what has happened is so symbolic that it is no longer only about Sushant. I have a strong feeling that justice will be served because the current situation is very similar to the prerequisite for justice as quoted by Benjamin Franklin- “Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.”

  1. I didn’t know Sushant’s life achievements until after June 14th. I live in FL and I don’t watch many Hindi movies. Unknowing watched MS Dhoni twice and just loved his performance.

I’m unable to stop thinking about this boy who is best in all (such a pure soul) had to go through a horrific end. Feeling so sad for the father, sisters and family.
I guess god took him back to cleanse the system 🙏🏽.

  2. Vishal, your article is the truth all Indians would agree somewhere or the other. This is the main reason why millions of people from not just India but abroad joined in. I can just stay strong and also Sushant would be happy that if a son is taken away from a family, god gave such son in laws who are no less than a son to his father and sisters. I salute you for voicing this out in such tough times. May we all get closure, may we get justice for a star that touched our hearts.

  5. Hello!
My deepest condolences to you and your family for this loss.
I was never Sushant’s fan especially because I stopped watching bollywood for a while to focus on my career, my visions and also I could hardly myself relate to so many movies other than biopics.

But SSR was beyond an actor & as an engineer myself, I have become his biggest supporter!

I have been literally spending 8-12 hours (all combined) watching YouTube live shows, following Instagram , listening to experts , tweeting/ re-tweeting ,collecting more evidences , trolling celebs , understanding SSR even better through each HIS FANS /SUPPORTERS & by watching his interviews …for 2 months straight. I know , bollywood is COLLAPSING SOON!

Also , belonging to an industry like bollywood ; #SSR thought of gaining popularity & generate greater income ; to use them to invest into his other passions…. which is impossible through real engineering in early stages …ask me , I am still struggling!
He wanted to invest into his business , innovations & passion to simply grow India FURTHER in +ve ways!

I live in New York and I would love meet his family either in the US or India someday! It will be my honor !

I feel Sushant should be declared and honored as a MARTYR (Shaheed) for exposing the enemies of India living in INDIA iteself without him having to go to the border…I have said this right from the beginning to Ms. Roopa Ganguly , Shekhar Suman, and PM Modi ji !

Please stay safe and hoping for some positive news today!

Dear God, Please power us through & bless the decision by the Supreme Court so that it reaches the RESULT of punishing all the culprits of Sushant Singh’s murder. We need YOUR DIVINE INTERVENTION as nothing happens without YOUR PERMISSION & PLAN!

  7. Absolutely true. So articulately said!
The fight for justice is no more limited to Sushant now. The justice for common people in India is at stake.
    May God hear our voice!
    May truth prevail!
    May Sushant get justice!
    May India get justice!
May ‘justice’ itself get justified! ✊✊✌️✌️

  9. I agree with you. As much as I regret not following his work as dedicatedly as I should’ve when he was around, I am praying everyday for you all to get justice.

You’re right – as an engineer- I know how hard is it to get an admit to DCE + getting a scholarship at Stanford – and for me that resonated the most. For me journey and rise of SSR was more about living with the ideal that we are brought up with that if you put your soul into some work, you are bound to be successful.

My heart still breaks knowing that he is no more with us, but for me it’s very clear that I am going to pray, post everyday till he gets justice and no longer going to support mediocrity in Bollywood. He was a noble soul who united the country. You’ve prayers of billions of us SSR and his wonderful family ❤

  10. Yes you are right not everyone in depression commits suicide but Sushant didn’t have depression, he had Bipolar disorder with hypomania. Go read about it and may be then comment.

    • Anyone can read stupid Bollywood media reporting and believe them. But how can you deny the voices of hundreds of his friends, who have known him for so many years that he cannot commit suicide? I would rather hear it from the horse’s mouth rather than read stupid Bollywood PR who have been paid lakhs to do it.

      • Peacefirst I found this very hard to believe but then I googled it and yes Shweta Singh Kirti who is Vishal’s wife did actually make these statements. I am very shocked don’t know what to say.. why did family do about turn and delete the post?

    • Even if we accept bipolar theory and assume he had depression, there are a LOT of holes that don’t add up. e.g. priyanka’s whatsapp and sos to brother-in-law back in Feb.
Rhea changing ALL staff (when a new manager comes into the company or a new CEO, first thing he/she does is fire ALL old staff, so that new staff is now loyal to him and not to the old ways) and not letting anyone communicate with him, handling his money, meds being given to him, being present in the medical office, complaining about being over-whelmed/anxiety and then not allowing ppl/family to meet him, using all his money, dumping/blocking his number and the list goes on and on. All this is VERY fishy!
If you stop and start and stop and start meds or if you secretly give him something in Europe trip, which is what is likely to have happened as Rhea’s dad was a doctor, he will become mentally ill. If lets say a healthy person starts to take psychotic drugs, then he/she will become imbalanced. Then you take that person to doctor. This is what happened in SSR’s case. Very rich, famous, successful people are vulnerable to such attacks. EVEN family members, even parents/mothers/fathers are known to take advantage of their kids wealth (e.g. Neetu singh, Amisha Patel etc). Rhea suddenly buys all these flats in Mumbai and now hires the most expensive lawyer….so if nothing she DID use SSR’s money!
So people are vulnerable. And in their vulnerable state, people like Rhea are like fleas. That attack the weak!
In SSR’s case, there seems to be bigger sajish. Seems like someone wanted to eliminate him! He was a major competition after Dhoni, Chichore success!! Delivering 100+ crore hits, working with outsiders like Neeraj Pandey and Tiwari! He was a threat and a big threat to everyone’s household and money/fame/existence!

  27. CBI to continue investigations… good. Everyone welcomed the much awaited decision. They all acknowledged each other’s contribution in raising voice and turning it all into a massive global movement but what was sadly missing from media coverage today was the loss the world is made to endure, a committed intelligent mind is gone, a beautiful heart is no more, a generous soul has made an unexpected exit. Can we please also mourn the loss while rejoicing a victory that nobody should ever have to desire
